I brushed the steel on my blender. Now one area looks brighter than the rest?

There was this black stuff on my blender that refused to come off by washing it with a rag, so I had to use very fine grit sandpaper. Now one area looks brighter than the rest of the blender. It is a brand new GE blender. How do I get it to match the rest of the blender or do I have to sand the rest of it.
