Sample Juicer and Pastry Blenders

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010
David H. Urmann asked:

Blenders are one of the best used equipments in our kitchen. There are many types of blender. See some juicer blenders and pastry blenders in here.

Blenders are kitchen appliances that grind food and mix them together. It breaks solids to smaller pieces or sometimes turns it to liquids. Hence, it is sometimes called a liquidizer. Most of the blenders are powered by electricity. Though there are blenders that are battery powered and gas powered, many prefer the electric powered because they are very convenient to use. They can simply help you make your work of grinding food easy and fast.

The blenders are made as a very powerful tool that the regular models have 24 cc powerful engines. It can generate uninterrupted performance of up to 2.5 horsepower. It can carry up to 101 pounds. These blenders are very durable. It can crush even a hard bone. It is a handy appliance easy to clean also.

The only drawback perhaps is that most blenders are noisy that comes from the constant churning or worn out blades. The newer models have solved this problem but you will have to pay a bigger price for it. It is worth the money if you plan to use it often. It will not disrupt your housemates especially if one is sleeping.

There are many types of blenders. Some of these are juicers and pastry blenders.

Juicer blenders are multifunctional. One is to blend solid foods and the other is to take out juices from the food. It saves a lot of space in the kitchen because of its two-in-one function. It conveniently separates the work of a juicer and a blender. If you need only a juicer or a blender, you can use only one part of this kitchen equipment. You can use just the blender or just the juicer. Below are some juicer blenders that are available in the market.

Drink Machine MP 32Z is a product of Vita-Mix Corporation. This machine can crush solid things in as fast as three seconds. Waring Blender RB75 is a juicer blender that has a 550 watt motor. The motor has 1.2 horsepower. The blending speeds can be seen in its tachometer. It is often used to crush ice to make shakes and other cold refreshing drinks.

The Waring Blender RB75 features a 5 year warranty specification, 120 V voltages; AC is 60Hz and 11.5 amps. This is a blender that they can let you program your own blender according to your needs. This is commonly used in restaurants wherein it is necessary to keep the same proportional ratios in their recipes. It is popular among homeowners too.

Another juicer blender is the GNC Mini Blender Bottle. This is the cheapest juicer blenders that can be available in the market. There are many other juicer blenders that are available in the market. Search one for your needs online.

Pastry blender is capable of mixing fat and flour. This has blades made of stainless steel. This also has comfort handle. This can make your cutting job very effortless. The cutting blades of the pastry blender are usually in diamond shape.

To mention a few examples, there is the stainless kind that has blades instead of wires. It is made with blades because this makes it easier to cut solid butter or lard. Pastry Pro Heavy Duty Pastry Blender is another type that features rigid stainless steel frame. It also makes use of blades instead of wire. It makes any blending job a lot easier.

How to Make Healthy Green Smoothies

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010
Jo delAmor, HHC asked:

Green smoothies are simply a fruit smoothie with fresh or powdered greens added. I love green smoothies and they are huge part of what I eat every day.  On a typical day, I might make 1- 2 quarts of green smoothie in the morning and drink most of it for breakfast. Friends often drink 4 quarts a day.  If I don’t finish it or make extra, it provides a great mid-afternoon energy boost.

Green Smoothies are easy to make, very nutrient-dense and one of the best ways to increase your greens intake significantly. They also crowd out the desire to eat less nutritious foods. You can make them very sweet, with the right mix of fruit and greens, so they satisfy sweet cravings and provide the real nutrition that your body is craving.

The only thing you need to make great green smoothies is a blender and access to fresh fruits and green vegetables (green powders can be a substitute when traveling or when fresh greens are unavailable).  You can use a typical low cost blender that you already own or purchase at any store.  However, if you develop the healthy habit of making your green smoothies daily, you will eventually burn out the blender. I learned the hard way and burned up three blenders over two years’ time before finally buying a commercial grade Vita-Mix blender.

But don’t let the lack of a great blender stop you from starting – simply use what you have, borrow one, buy a used one, or the best quality one that you can afford. Just use it!

Basic green smoothie recipe:

2 cups filtered water

2 bananas

2 oranges

1 apple

1 lemon (optional)

1/2 inch chunk fresh ginger (optional)

½ - 1 head of romaine, spinach, chard, beet greens, or kale

Add the water. Then fill your blender half way with fruit and the rest of the way with greens. Depending on the power of your blender, you may need to add slowly while blending. Blend for 1-2 minutes, or until very smooth.

Filtered water and organic fruit and greens are best – but again, do the best you can with what you have. Apples and berries are more important to select organic than are peeled citrus and bananas. Chop the fruit and ginger - a stronger blender can take larger chunks.  The orange and lemon can be juiced or just peeled with seeds removed. Apples and ginger can be left unpeeled for extra nutrients.

This basic recipe can be made into endless variations based on your own taste and the availability of ingredients.

You can use any fresh or frozen (unsweetened) fruits and any greens. Nutrient-packed herbs like parsley and cilantro are also great additions in your green smoothies. Spinach and romaine are the best greens to try first as they are more mild than kale or beet greens. Carrot tops and dandelion greens are very nutritious and deeply cleansing greens. Fruit juices are another option in your green smoothies if you cannot access enough fresh fruit or want to add some variety.  Use only 100% juice without added sweeteners and organic when possible.  Bottled juices are pasteurized (heated) so their fruit sugar is more concentrated and they do not maintain the same amount of nutrients as fresh or frozen fruit. Try adding avocado, celery, tomatoes, carrots or beets. Add spirulina, hemp powder, ground flax, bee pollen, maca, or other superfoods to boost the protein and the nourishing/cleansing effect of your green smoothies.

When you first make your smoothies, you’ll probably need a higher ratio of fruit to greens.  Make it sweet enough that you will enjoy drinking it, but as “green” as you can handle.  Over time you will be able to lessen the amount of fruit and increase the amount and variety of greens.

Healthy Smoothie Recipes

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010
Rachel Peterson asked:

There are literally hundreds of different ingredients that can be used to make smoothies in a blender.  Listed below are some of my personal favorites.  Keep in mind I tend to eat really healthy so if you don’t like the ingredients I use, you can usually substitute them with your own choice.  Also my measurements are hit and miss so nothing is ever exact.

Banana Supreme

1 frozen banana

Plain yogurt or Rice milk

Ice

Drop of vanilla

Can add a teaspoon of matcha, protein powder or chai mix if wanted.

This is one of my ultimate favorite summer smoothies that guarantees to be delicious.  I personally love to add the powdered chai mix which then makes it a banana chai smoothy which is absolutely delicious.

Matcha Energy Booster Smoothie

Plain yogurt or Rice milk

1 teaspoon of matcha

Ice

Drop of vanilla

Stevia

This smoothy is simply and very easy.  It is not sweet at all so I usually add a squirt of liquid stevia to it.  You can substitute the stevia for honey or some other type of sweetener if you like.  This smoothie is delicious, healthy and truly a real energy booster

Beautiful Blueberry Smoothie

Frozen blueberries

Plain yogurt or Rice milk

Ice

Half a frozen banana

I do love blueberries and they happen to make for a great smoothie (just be sure to pick the remnants out of your teeth after!).  The half a banana adds a bit of sweetness to this smoothie and you could also replace it with any other type of fruit if you like.

Fruit Surprise Smoothie

Add all of your left over fruit… from apples, to nectarines, to apricots, to blueberries, to strawberries, to peaches to banana’s.

Plain yogurt or Rice Milk

Ice

The taste of this smoothie will always be a surprise.  You never know what you’re going to get when you simply add a lot of everything.  Usually it turns out pleasantly good and often very sweet.  I have literally made one with practically all of the above ingredients and it was strange looking but delicious none the less.

You can see a theme with all of my smoothies.  The ingredients are fairly similar with just a few variations.  The smoothies listed above are all healthy and wonderful to taste.  Kids and adults will enjoy them and hopefully they will be a big hit on warmer days.
