How do I clean my hand blender with out blowing myself up?

I use a hand blender to puree foods for my 6 month old baby, but really struggle cleaning it after each use. My husband suggested putting the head in water and then turning it on, not sure if he is trying to kill me off or being helpful! I have tried using a washing up brush but the blades just get in the way. How can I clean it?

Theoretically you should be able to put the head in water and turn it on as it turns things into liquid anyway so the seals must be water tight. I’d go with your husbands suggestion.
