Is a blender a suitable substitute for a food processor?

Stella asked:

I’m making a berry pie. I have to crush graham crackers for the crust and puree berries for the filling. What do you think? Do I need to borrow/buy a food processor for this or can I just use my blender?

You can puree the berries, but blenders need some liquid (or you’ll burn out the motor)… so crush the crackers by hand. Put them in a zip-lock baggie and roll them with a rolling pin…… Both food processors & blenders puree, but only food processors slice, chop & grind solids (with no liquid added)
